Guide 02

AI copywriting for sharper positioning, clearer offers, and faster testing.

AI can generate many versions of a headline, email, ad, or call to action. The real skill is giving it a strong strategic frame so the output sells a specific outcome to a specific audience.

Start with positioning before prose

Copywriting is not simply attractive wording. It is the translation of positioning into a message that makes a reader understand why an offer matters now. AI can help with that translation, but it needs raw material: the audience segment, the painful problem, the desired outcome, proof points, objections, competitors, pricing context, and the action you want the reader to take. Without that information, AI defaults to polished but interchangeable language.

Before asking for landing page copy, create a positioning block. Include “For [audience], who struggle with [problem], our product helps them achieve [outcome] by [mechanism], unlike [alternative], because [proof].” This sentence is not always customer-facing, but it gives the model a clear spine. From there, AI can produce hero headlines, subheads, benefit bullets, objection-handling sections, feature explanations, and CTA variants that remain connected to the same argument.

Use frameworks as lenses, not cages

AI works well with copywriting frameworks such as AIDA, PAS, BAB, Jobs-to-be-Done, problem-agitate-solve, and before-after-bridge. Each framework highlights a different route to persuasion. AIDA is useful for ads and short landing sections. PAS can make a problem feel urgent, but it may become melodramatic if overused. Jobs-to-be-Done is useful for B2B copy because it keeps attention on the progress the buyer wants to make. BAB helps show contrast without relying on fear.

Ask AI to produce one version under each framework, then compare. Which version names the clearest pain? Which gives the most credible proof? Which sounds closest to how customers actually talk? The winning version may be a hybrid. A useful prompt is: “Combine the directness of version two with the proof from version four, remove exaggerated claims, and make the CTA more specific.”

Landing pages, ads, and email

For landing pages, use AI to map information hierarchy before drafting. The typical order is problem, promise, product mechanism, benefits, proof, objections, pricing or next step, and CTA. AI can propose section labels and microcopy, but a human should decide what proof deserves the most visibility. Screenshots, customer quotes, measurable outcomes, integrations, guarantees, and security details often matter more than clever phrasing.

For ads, AI is useful for volume. Ask for variations by angle: time saved, money saved, risk reduced, status gained, complexity removed, or opportunity created. Keep claims compliant and avoid implying results that are not typical. For email, AI can draft subject lines, preview text, body options, and follow-up sequences. Test tone carefully: too much enthusiasm can trigger skepticism, while too much brevity can feel cold.

Pricing and tool choices

Copywriting-specific AI tools often include brand voice storage, templates, campaign folders, and collaboration. Entry pricing commonly starts around £10–£25 per user per month, while larger platforms with approval workflows and compliance features can exceed £100 per user per month. General models are cheaper and more flexible, but they require more prompt discipline. If you write regulated copy, choose a workflow that supports review logs, approved claims, and restricted terminology.

The highest-return feature is usually not unlimited word generation. It is reusable context. A saved voice guide, product description, customer objection list, and approved proof library can improve every prompt. Teams should treat these assets as copy infrastructure.

Pros, cons, and quality control

The advantages are speed, option generation, and the ability to test messaging angles before design work begins. AI can reveal possibilities a team may not have considered and can adapt a core message for different channels. The disadvantages are overclaiming, cliché phrases, weak differentiation, and messages that sound persuasive but do not match the product experience.

Quality control should focus on specificity. Replace “boost productivity” with a measurable workflow improvement. Replace “seamless” with what actually happens. Replace “all-in-one” with the three jobs the product performs best. Before publishing, read the copy aloud and ask whether a skeptical buyer would believe each sentence. Good AI copywriting is not louder copy; it is clearer copy with better evidence.
